China’s pioneering and world’s sole bus safety assessment program

According to the 2017 Transportation Industry Development Statistical Bulletin released by the Ministry of Transportation, the road buses and city buses undertook nearly 60% of the passenger transportation task for the society in China. The safety technology level of the buses is directly related to the traveling safety of all people.

In the passenger vehicle field, U.S., Europe, Japan, and China have released the new car assessment program (NCAP) to assess the collision safety of passenger vehicles long ago. At the end of July, 2017, China Bus Safety Assessment Management Center released the China Safety Coach Assessment Program (C-SCAP) to test the safety performances of vehicles as per the more stringent requirements than “China’s mandatory standard currently in force” and directly demonstrate the safety performances of bus products by quantitative scores.

Emergence of first batch of star-level safety buses

C-SCAP selects the critical items of most representative safety performances of buses in terms of braking safety, stability safety, structure safety, and protection safety, including the traditional safety items such as braking, operation stability, vehicle rollover, and seat structure performance as well as the advanced active safety technologies such as AEB and ESC and sets up the bonus items from the perspective of leading the application of new technologies and new equipment.

China Bus Safety Assessment Management Center completed the first round of assessments for multiple leading vehicle models of diversified manufacturers independently, objectively, and justly strictly as per the acceptance, planning, assessment, and review procedure. As of May, 2018, finally 3 vehicle models won the 5-star rating with excellent overall performance and high safety technology level.
